An artists calling is an honourable one. They know a
thousand techniques including how to suspend time on canvas. They make paintings that are
as personal for themselves as they are for the viewing audience. The artist creates images
that engage the mind, the heart and the emotions. A gifted artist allows you to feel his
work.
Peter Fromme-Douglas is such an artist.
He breaths life into feelings normally buried deep inside his
subjects. All of his work, from his delicate flowers and wide-eyed children to his images
of sophisticated ladies and corporate projects have been indelibly marked by his
sensitivity. Fromme-Douglas specializes in conveying feelings. Whether it is a painting of
a woman, child, animal or most recent calling aviation the works are magic.
His love and respect for wildlife and nature comes from a
childhood spent in Marathon, Ontario, Canada, atop Lake Superior where his gift was first
recognized by his parents in his fourth year of age. At 14 he moved to Toronto and
attended the private New School of Art. At 18 he went to Los Angeles to research and
illustrate crests for a coat of arms company. Back in Toronto some time later, he designed
retail stores on a freelance basis.
In 1974 he began entering his paintings in local exhibits. By
1975 he was winning every award available, including Best by Popular Vote Awards.
All art forms inspire him. In addition to his painting (fine
arts, commercial arts, still life, animal portraits and impressionism), Fromme-Douglas is
an accomplished interior, landscape and graphic designer. His portfolio included jewelry,
restaurant, store, boat and automobile design and he has worked with a number of corporate
clients including Magna International, Canadian Tire Acceptance Corporation. And, as if
that wasnt enough, he is an accomplished sculptor and photographer.
His first plate series for Wedgwood Canada resulted in Plate of
the Show Awards for the first issue, Little Lady of Love, at both the 1984 Toronto and
South Bend plate fairs. By 1982 his work hung beside Dali and Miro at Centre Art Gallery
in Hawaii. He had one man showings at Dyansen Galleries in Soho (New York) and Beverly
Hills (California) and Metropolis in Boston.
In 1986 he won the coveted Golden Squeegee Award from the Screen
Printers Association International for the worlds best serigraph (1985/86). He has
painted portraits of world leaders and drank champagne with sheiks and celebrities. Not
content with the status quo, he removed himself from the hustle and began to further study
impressionism and seek out his next passion.
In 1997 this gifted artist found aviation and was captivated by
its profound depth. From the freedom to fly, to the magnificent engineering concepts and
history, to the people themselves Peter Fromme-Douglas has returned with a new calling
Aviation Art.
It may be time for us all to fasten our seat belts, for now, we
are about to see a new and refreshing style. The Aviation Art of Fromme-Douglas is here!
